A Quick Lunch At Carluccio’s

Finding a good, unfussy what you see is what you get restaurant is hard these days. I mean you always run the risk of ending up paying for bad service or even worse food.

So when I feel like Italian food and just need a familiar place to go to I head to Carluccios, yes…yes I know this is a chain but sometimes a chain restaurant can deliver something that a traditional place can’t.

You will find Carluccio‘s in pretty much most popular high street. I tend to head to the branch located in Solihull, as I love the location and use this as as a pitstop to refuel for shopping (they have a great Zara there that is actually not heaving with humans). This is also one of the places that my mum and I like to spend our “mummy & daughter time”.

Once inside the restaurant you are greeted by the warm smell of bread and coffee and we all know that is my weakness in life.

Once we were seated we ordered from the huge menu which had the option of gluten free, set menu or à la carte.

We took advantage of the lunchtime set menu (which I believe changes with the season).

First up the drinks… can you guess which one as mine?

Yep, I ordered sparking water which I know is a little bit of an aquired taste but for me its a cheat way of getting in my 2 litres of water. Le Mari had the San Pellegrino Orange and Pomegranate drink was as I recall him saying “refreshing”.

Then came the starters

We ordered Courgette Flowers stuffed with Goats cheese ( after Feta this is my other fav cheese) which came with a warm slightly spicy tomato sauce so so yummy. We also ordered our regular order of mushrooms and spinach arancini balls. These were so crunchy from the outside and fluffy from the inside, I highly recommend this dish for anyone who has not had arancini before.

Finally for our mains we stuck with typical Italian dishes of pasta.

Seafood Linguine that I would have preferred more seafood in (I always get disappointed of the amount of seafood in dishes like these…. why so Stingy?). Le Mari took Spaghetti with beef bolognese, the sauce to pasta ratio on this dish was on point and it was as expected but nothing to rave about.

Overall I would say we loved the food the only disappointment for us was the seafood Linguni which I would advice to stay clear of.

That being said I do think this is place is a great for quenching any Italian food cravings you might have and are not so fussed.
